Paris Je T'aime played at the Cannes Film Festival last year and it impressed First Look Pictures enough that the studio bought the North American rights to distribute the film across America for a limited run in May this year. The film chronicles 18 different love stories in Paris, each filmed by a different director and acting crew, each telling the romantic story they wish to tell. According to AICN who have seen the movie already, "Some interconnect, some don't....Some are traditional, some are horrific, some are the love between a father and daughter, a wife for a husband, a boy for a girl" It's nothing really original. Six in Paris did exactly the same kind of the thing in the 1960's. I've probably just lost you all there, so let me bring you back by telling you some of the talent involved in this flick.... A few (certainly not all) of the notable directors - Alfonso Cuaron, Wes Craven, Gus Van Sant, The Coen Brothers, Tom Tyker and Alexander Payne. A few (certainly not all) of the notable acting talents - Elijah Wood, Steve Buscemi, Bob Hoskins, Natalie Portman, Rufus Sewell, Willem Dafoe, Gena Rowlands. This has to be worth a look. 18 different 5 minute shorts could be a real drag if they aren't done that well but with some of the talent involved, at least some of them should be interesting at least. At the best of my knowledge, no distributors have picked this up for the U.K, so if we are to see this we will have to import a region 1 dvd.
