I was kinda pinning my hopes on Newcastle born Neil Marshall (The Descent, Dog Soldiers) to helm Predators after he came into the mix last month, but according to Harry Knowles, writer/producer Robert Rodriguez has had his eye on Nimrod Antal (Vacancy) for a while and it's no surprise to him that Rodriguez has confirmed his appointment this week. According to Rodriguez, he is going to have a very "hands on" approach to his producing capacity at Troublemaker Studios (with 20th Century Fox financing), and it reminds him of the close collaboration he had with Frank Miller on making Sin City. Though remember Rodriguez mostly directed Sin City so that's a strange comment and one that if I was Antal, I would be worried he was going to take over my picture. I have no way of classifying this picture as of yet (is it a sequel/prequel/reboot or what?) but Rodriguez does say it still involves a very intense group of people stranded on a Predator planet discovering unspeakable horrors (that are not always from outside their group). So like the original movie, the title does have a double meaning.
