Every year one or two Chinese smash hit action or fantasy films manage to crack the worldwide top 20, and Detective Chinatown 2 is one of two entries in 2018's list.

In what's one of the most impressive sequel increases in cinema history, the buddy comedy mystery follow-up has more than quadrupled the 2015 original's $126 million haul (which was itself an impressive result on a mere $15 million budget), making it currently the third highest-grossing film of 2018, and China's fourth highest-grossing film ever.

The film's box office business is basically done, but its place in the top 20 is safely secured.
