The second collaboration between Ryan Gosling and director Derek Cianfrance following Blue Valentine, The Place Beyond the Pines tells of a motorcycle driver and a police office who play a fifteen year game of cat and mouse. The Place Beyond the Pines continues both Gosling's, and fellow cast member Bradley Cooper's, rise into the top tier of Hollywood actors. Early reviews for Place Beyond the Pines have been a little varied, with some calling it dull and overlong but with other calling it a masterpiece. The trailers have made the film look excellent (although what trailers don't) and with a U.S release date of March 29th, The Place Beyond the Pines should be the first really good movie of 2013. My prediction is that Place Beyond the Pines is one of the surprise films of 2013 and at the very least, should feature stylish directing and visuals, as well as excellent performance from both Cooper and Gosling.
