Predicting The 20 Best Movies Of 2013

By Paul Sorrells /

9. Only God Forgives

Director Nicolas Winding-Refn and actor Ryan Gosling's follow up to 2011's Drive, Only God Forgives should be one of the best, and certainly one of the most brutal, films of 2013. The plot of the film is still somewhat vague but seems to feature the manager of a boxing ring who gets on the wrong side of the law. Only God Forgives seems to follow the standard set by Drive as it promises to be another pulpy, visceral, ultra-violent film that will more than likely not garner much attention during awards season despite a decent chance at considerable critical acclaim. Refn has established himself as one of the more intriguing directorial talents of the last few years and Only God Forgives will hopefully cement his reputation as a big time filmmaker. With Refn's stylish directing and one of cinema's best active actors, Only God Forgives should be one of the more interesting films of 2013.
