Predicting The 20 Best Movies Of 2013

By Paul Sorrells /

14. The Monuments Men

An early favorite for the Oscars, The Monuments Men follows a group of Allied soldiers who are tasked with finding and protecting valuable works of art in Nazi Germany during the closing months of World War Two. Co-written, produced, and directed by George Clooney, the only person in history to be nominated for Oscars in six different categories, the Monuments Men has a lot of things going for it including a talented cast and compelling subject matter. George Clooney is one of the most proficient actor-directors currently and the Oscars have shown a fondness for historical movies featuring an actor-director (Braveheart, Argo). The Monuments Men is primed for a late december release where it will have an excellent chance of being an Academy Award frontrunner. George Clooney has become one of the more consistent creative talents in Hollywood, and with The Monuments Men, it seems as if he's tackling his most ambitious film yet and it will more than likely end up among the years best.
