Prometheus 2: Ridley Scott Plans At Least 3 Sequels

Over-confidence, thy name is Scott.

Despite being busy with the promotion and publicity tour for The Martian - including premiering it in space, because movie studios have way too much money, apparently - Ridley Scott has been teasing the future of his other intergalactic property, and it seems he has a blue-print for lots more Alien strands. In conversation with German movie site FilmFutter, Scott happily admitted that there may be as many as four Prometheus films before the timeline ties into the first Alien. When asked whether Prometheus 2 would join directly onto Alien, he offered the following:
€œYes, but it won€™t be in the next one. It will be in the one after this one or maybe even a fourth film before we get back into the €˜Alien€™ franchise€"
Four Prometheus films? Think of all the unanswered questions and plot-holes we'll have by the time they're all out! Scott seems to suggest (albeit through a Google translator that has an iffy track-record to say the least) that the Prometheus timeline is going to concentrate on how (and why) the Xenomorphs were developed as weapons of mass destruction:
"The whole point of it is to explain the Alien franchise and to explain the how and why of the creation of the Alien itself. I always thought of the Alien as kind of a piece of bacterial warfare. I always thought that that original ship, which I call the Croissant, was a battleship, holding these biomechanoid creatures that were all about destruction.€
Could it be that the aliens were created as a defence mechanism by an over-reaching race threatened with existence? With the last film teasing an exploratory trip to the Engineers' homeplanet to find the cause of their desire to wipe out humanity, there will be a chance to offer some insight into why anyone would be possessed to create a walking, angry killing machine. Because there has to have been a pretty compelling reason. Perhaps it will all lead to a revelation that humanity was created as a biological weapon too but evolved beyond awareness of their primary directive, and that the Engineers then decided to create a weapon to destroy the weapon. So basically, the same story of the old lady who swallowed a fly. If that ends up being what the entire Alien franchise is based on, Ridley Scott deserves to be knighted again. Prometheus 2 will begin filming in February with Michael Fassbender and Noomi Rapace back in at the top of the bill. Will anyone else join the cast? If not, we're going to be looking at an Alien franchise film with precious few opportunities for kills.
