Quentin Tarantino's New Film Gets Brad Pitt, Official Title & Synopsis
Once Upon A Time In Hollywood...
The cast for Quentin Tarantino's ninth movie continues to grow impressively, with Brad Pitt the latest star added to its ranks.
The news of Pitt's casting comes from Deadline, and the actor - who previously worked with Tarantino on 2009's Inglourious Basterds - joins Leonardo DiCaprio in the film, with Margot Robbie in talks as well.
The movie has an actual title now as well: Once Upon A Time In Hollywood, which seems like a pretty clear homage to one of Tarantino's greatest influences, Sergio Leone.
Although first reported to be about the Manson murders themselves, instead they'll form part of the backdrop to the movie. Sony released an official synopsis for the movie, which reads:
"A story that takes place in Los Angeles in 1969, at the height of hippy Hollywood. The two lead characters are Rick Dalton (Leonardo DiCaprio), former star of a western TV series, and his longtime stunt double Cliff Booth (Brad Pitt). Both are struggling to make it in a Hollywood they don’t recognize anymore. But Rick has a very famous next-door neighbour…Sharon Tate.”
Tate is the role that Robbie is up for, while Tom Cruise was previously said to be up for a part, though it's unclear whether that's the one that's gone to Pitt or a separate role. There's also reportedly a supporting role written with Al Pacino in mind.
The setting of the film makes a lot of sense for a filmmaker such as Tarantino too, given so much of his work is heavily influenced by Hollywood's past - now, in what might be his penultimate movie, he gets to go there himself. In a press release, the director said:
"I’ve been working on this script for five years, as well as living in Los Angeles County most of my life, including in 1969, when I was seven years old. I’m very excited to tell this story of an LA and a Hollywood that don’t exist anymore. And I couldn’t be happier about the dynamic teaming of DiCaprio & Pitt as Rick & Cliff."
