Quentin Tarantino's annual list of the Best & Worst films from the past year have once again raised some eyebrows, with some accusations from those across the Internet calling him 'out of touch' with current cinema by placing Paul W.S. Anderson's atrocious The Three Musketeers on his 'Best Films' list and a movie like Rampart on his 'Worst'. Of course putting The Three Musketeers 11th on a 'Best Films' list is fine if you have only seen 11 films in that year but when he consciously notes dozens of better movies in other placements on his list, you begin to wonder if Tarantino is once again being influenced by his friends output. You will recall that Christoph Waltz, Tarantino's newest muse and star of Inglourious Basterds and his forthcoming Django Unchained has a major role in Musketeers which may have swayed him. Tarantino also has his friend Kevin Smith's Red State eighth on his list, a movie Quentin was vocal in supporting this year and also has Tarantino regular Michael Parks in the top billed role. Surprisingly, the originator of the 'cinema of cool' in the '90s, has given Drive a rather insulting 'Nice Try Award' which almost smacks as Tarantino saying 'nice try imitating and being as cool as me but you fell short kid'. Drive has become the cult classic film of the year which has defined 'cool' for an awful lot of rabid supporters but if I'm being honest, Tarantino has the same opinion as me. The movie is a 'Nice Try', it's almost awesome but loses its way in the second act. You can read my original review here. My two questions? 1) I'm guessing he hasn't seen Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy. 2) How the hell can he have The Artist & Our Idiot Brother tied for anything!! Quentin Tarantino's top ten films of 2011 looks like this; 1. Midnight in Paris 2. Rise of the Planet of the Apes 3. Moneyball 4. The Skin I Live In 5. X-Men: First Class 6. Young Adult 7. Attack the Block 8. Red State 9. Warrior 10. The Artist / Our Idiot Brother (tie) 11.
