It comes as little surprise considering he was by far the coolest character in the last two movies, but Quicksilver has been confirmed for the next X-Men film.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Evan Peters will return as the pacy mutant in next year's X-Men: Dark Phoenix.

Peters will join a lengthy list of returning cast members on the project, including James McAvoy, Jennifer Lawrence, Michael Fassbender and Nicholas Hoult.

Sophie Turner, Alexandra Shipp, Tye Sheridan and Kodi Smit-McPhee, who made their X-debuts in last year's Apocalypse, will also be back for another outing.

The trade publication also brings word that Canadian actor Lamar Johnson has joined Dark Phoenix in role that Fox are keeping under wraps for now.

Dark Phoenix will bring a legendary comic book storyline - in which Jean Grey's (Turner) powers swell to a dangerous level - to the big screen, capping off more than 30 years' worth of comic book mythology.

Fox's X-Men steward Simon Kinberg is writing the latest sequel and will also make his directorial debut on the project, which is set to arrive in theatres in November 2018.

Two other X-movies are scheduled for that year, with New Mutants and Deadpool 2 due to land ahead of the next core instalment.
