4. Sylvester Stallone's Grizzled Performance
Say what you want about the movie on a technical and narrative level, but Sylvester Stallone absolutely brings his gritty best to the table here, and makes his strongest effort to sell the rather silly scenario we're witnessing.
In this movie, Rambo isn't so much the broken down husk he was in the previous film, but has found something approaching contentment with Maria and Gabrielle, even if he's still riddled by decades of residual PTSD.
Stallone's own aged appearance adds a lot of weight to the character, just as it has in the recent Rocky/Creed movies, and while some might argue that he's a little too powerful here given his age and the younger enemies he's battling, the film does largely embrace Stallone effectively now being an old man.
Without Stallone's physical performance, the film wouldn't be anywhere near as watchable as it is.
