RottenTomatoes Score: 53% (5.8/10) Box Office: Thanks to its low $11 million budget, Woman in Gold was able to overcome a thoroughly lackluster marketing campaign, grossing $21.5 million to date worldwide, making it a modest success for sure. The Verdict: The real-life tale of Maria Altmann's (Helen Mirren) decade-long quest to recover a number of her family's paintings stolen by the Nazis during World War II is undeniably fascinating, and so it's frustrating that with two talented leads, it's given such a wishy-washy treatment here. Helen and Reynolds (as her tenacious young lawyer) give it their all, but the script just can't dig into the nitty-gritty of the the story and bring the most compelling elements to the surface. It's just pretty dull if never less than watchable.
