Box Office: On an approximate $9 million budget, Park Chan-wook's latest thriller has pulled in an impressive $36 million to date.

Verdict: It shouldn't surprise any fans of the Oldboy director that his attempt at a period film is all kinds of f***ed up.

The Handmaiden melds Park's characteristic luridness with beautiful cinematography, excellent production design and costumes, and an outstanding ensemble cast.

Sexy, twisted and occasionally confusing, it just might be the director's most intricately-layered effort to date, and like most of his films, has cult classic written all over it.
