4. Z For Zachariah

Rotten Tomatoes Score: 83% (7/10) Box Office: Budgetary information is unavailable though the movie evidently wasn't made for much, and a day-and-date VOD bow suggests it won't be making much back from cinemas either. The Verdict: It may be a slight comedown from Craig Zobel's electrifying and highly controversial previous feature Compliance, but Z for Zachariah does a solid job evoking a profound sense of humanity from its low-fi post-apocalyptic love triangle scenario. As such, it's the performance more than anything that fires this one home: Margot Robbie and Chiwetel Ejiofor are especially strong here. It's unquestionably going to be too slow, vague and lacking in consequence for some viewers, but for those prepared to dig in deep for the long haul, it's a thought-provoking, atmospheric piece.
