6. Best Adapted Screenplay
As Logan proved, Best Adapted Screenplay is an area where a comic book movie can break through, and it's somewhere Black Panther should do well.
So much of the praise heaped on the movie comes from its heavy themes surrounding black lives, black culture, and colonialism, and all of that weight starts on the page with the screenplay from Ryan Coogler and Joe Robert Cole. With a more diverse group of members, this is one of the big awards where Panther might have a good shot, although again there's a LOT of competition.

Chances Of Winning: Yeah, about that competition. In this category will presumably be BlackKklansman, First Man, A Star Is Born, and If Beale Street Could Talk, so taking the trophy is going to be another big ask, but this is a category where voters often recognise less typical Oscar fare. 6/10
