Box Office: Into the Spider-Verse scored the best-ever December opening for an animated film, and though its legs should carry it close to the $300 million mark, its performance has clearly been harmed somewhat by the sheer wealth of blockbusters released in December.

Still, with a modest $90 million budget, it's an easy success, even if a universally-acclaimed Spider-Man movie probably should've performed better.

Verdict: Not only the best Spider-Man movie ever made but flat-out one of the best superhero movies of all time, Into the Spider-Verse is an hilarious, boundlessly create tribute to the comic book medium brought to vibrant life with ground-breaking animation and excellent performances.

What really takes the film to the next level, though, isn't its meta tone or Nicolas Cage-voiced Spider-Man Noir, but the unexpectedly poignant emotion felt throughout.
