Ranking Every Billion Dollar Movie - From Worst To Best
27. Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace
Box Office: $1,027,044,677
There's a significant jump in class now, but there's no denying that The Phantom Menace remains a disappointment compared to the rest of the Star Wars universe. It rode into town on the back of one of the most monumental tidal waves of hype ever seen, promising Star Wars fans the tonic for their ills they'd missed for a decade and a half, and while lots of it is great, lots of it was also terrible.
Nobody will ever forgive George Lucas for his Jar-Jar Binks crimes, and while it's a lot better than Attack Of The Clones, The Phantom Menace did way too little to prove itself worthy of the hype. Lucas over-explained everything, focused too much on bureaucracy and sidelined one of the best villains in the franchise (again).
