RottenTomatoes Score: 12% (4.2/10) Box Office: Despite starring two venerable box office draws in Ethan Hawke and especially Emma Watson, this limp thriller failed to reap back even its conservative $20 million budget, having scooped a mere $17.7 million worldwide. Tragic. Verdict: Hawke and David Thewlis are pretty much the sole reasons that this massively disappointing effort from Alejandro AmenĂ¡bar (The Others) isn't the worst film on this list. There's no atmosphere nor any compelling mystery, though Hawke tries his hardest to sell it, while Emma Watson gives the worst performance of her career with an outrageously unconvincing American accent. On the other hand, at least Watson's screen time is fairly minimal (though the movie has mostly been sold on her presence), even if it still leaves the audience saddled with a soporific narrative, leading to a wildly predictable plot twist. Given the Oscar hype this movie had last year, what a colossal let-down.
