RottenTomatoes Score: 59% (6/10) Box Office: The $70-80 million disaster flick pulled in a catastrophic $11.9 million in its opening weekend, ensuring it's the year's first major, big-budget box office dud. Verdict: The real-life story of the SS Pendleton's rescue is transformed into an enjoyable if lightweight and fairly familiar disaster film, for though character development is barely a consideration at all here, as a spectacle it's a fine-tuned thrill-ride. In addition to the strong set-pieces, the performances from Chris Pine and Casey Affleck in particular hit the spot, and though it's probably a little too long, it's a refreshingly retro approach to the genre.
