6. Alex Strangelove

Box Office: Straight-to-Netflix.

Verdict: Basically a less-good Love, Simon, Alex Strangelove is a moderately charming, well-acted rom-com about a young man (Daniel Doheny) coming to terms with being gay.

It's goofy, predictable and lightweight almost to a fault, but it's a perfectly fine diversion for a listless Sunday afternoon, and is kinda perfect for the Netflix platform, to be honest (because few would pay to see this in cinemas).

Though it doesn't hit the emotional highs you might hope for, it's at least encouraging to see movie studios telling more stories like this.
