RottenTomatoes Score: 23% (4.3/10) Box Office: On a $40 million budget, Victor Frankenstein bombed in its first five days on release, falling far short of its initial $12 million projection, pulling in approximately $3.4 million for the five days, a hilariously low figure that makes it one of the worst major studio openings of the year. Verdict: James McAvoy and Daniel Radcliffe certainly try their hardest to inject this new take on the classic story with plenty of life, but they're left stranded with a surprisingly tedious revisionist take from controversial screenwriter Max Landis, who will no doubt spend the next few weeks decrying "Hollywood" for his movie's failure rather than his own lack of creativity as an artist. McAvoy's overacting does undeniably result in some pleasures, but it's the sort that's more likely to end up as a hilarious YouTube montage than anything with genuine substance.
