Box Office: Hilariously, Inferno fell way below its North American box office projections, being beaten by Tyler Perry's Boo! A Madea Halloween in its opening weekend.

The film fared much better internationally, and though it won't be a hit on par with the prior two Dan Brown adaptations, it's already doubled its fairly modest $75 million budget (half that of the previous film's price tag), and could easily do it three times before it's all said and done.

That poor American performance might be enough to kill the franchise, though.

Verdict: Even fans of The Da Vinci Code and Angels and Demons might struggle to give this woefully lazy, even dull mystery thriller a pass, which tries to coast on general audience goodwill towards Tom Hanks...and fails miserably.

With a generically forgettable plot, phoned-in performances, hilariously bad dialogue and terrible CGI, it borders so often on being a self-parody but never quite exhibits such self-awareness. Absolutely terrible.
