What Happened?

Just this past week, reports emerged that Ezra Miller was leaving the role of The Flash aka Barry Allen, owing to creative differences with Warner Bros., after he took a pass at the script for his solo movie Flashpoint and the studio opted not to use it.

Miller reportedly wanted to preserve the darker, grittier tone of Zack Snyder's DCEU movies which, quite understandably, Warner Bros. isn't much interested in given the billion-dollar success of the lighter-than-air Aquaman.

The Recast

Fans need to accept that they're never going to get The CW's Barry Allen (Grant Gustin) in the DCEU, but there are a ton of interesting alternatives to play this part.

Assuming that future movies will retain the same goofball Allen depicted in Justice League, we like Garrett Hedlund to take over from Miller. He's an on-the-rise actor who's proven himself capable in both comedic and dramatic fare, he's handsome as hell and, unlike Miller, he doesn't run like a weirdo.

You can argue that he doesn't much resemble Miller and is also close to a decade older than him, but honestly, that can be easily solved by the reality-warping potential of the Flashpoint storyline.

Hedlund has been working towards his breakout role for a long damn time, and he'd be a great fit for The Flash.
