13. Horace Slughorn - Stephen Fry

Stephen Fry already has a close connection with the Harry Potter series. His unabridged narration of the original novels is superb, and he’s particularly good at creating distinctive voices for the various characters.

Whilst he doesn’t really match Rowing’s physical description of Slughorn, Fry would be the ideal candidate in terms of mannerisms and temperament. Slughorn has a comedic, jovial personality, and as such, Fry’s lengthy comedy career (which includes Blackadder and A Bit of Fry and Laurie) would be highly beneficial for the role.

What’s more, Fry naturally exudes wisdom when he speaks. And whilst there are other characters who are much wiser than Slughorn, he’s certainly not lacking when it comes to intellect and magical ability.

There are a number of other Harry Potter characters Fry would be more than capable of playing (such as Dumbledore or Mr Weasley), but he would be perfect for the role of Slughorn.
