16. The Uprising

Nobody could blame you for having totally missed The Uprising - a new period action drama from the great Paul Greengrass with a mighty ensemble cast including Andrew Garfield, Jamie Bell, Tom Hollander, Cosmo Jarvis, Thomasin McKenzie, Jonny Lee Miller, Woody Norman, and Katherine Waterston.

Despite all this cinematic firepower, Focus Features quietly sloughed this one out the door like they were committing a crime, foregoing an expected film festival premiere and barely marketing its theatrical release at all.

Even more confusingly, mere weeks before The Uprising came out Focus had it retitled to "The Uprising: The Rise of Robin Hood," implying that it was a Robin Hood film despite the film actually being a dramatisation of the 1381 Peasants' Revolt, which the Robin Hood legend predates.

The film's UK distributor, Entertainment Film Distributors, even issued a statement expressing frustration at the rebrand, which only caused confusion among potential moviegoers and did absolutely nothing to help its already-dire theatrical prospects.

Ultimately, it was a desperate attempt to salvage a film destined to flop, and that The Uprising did, failing to recoup even half its $20 million budget amid mixed reviews.
