Renfield Review: 5 Ups & 5 Downs

4. The Insanely Gory Action

Universal

Renfield is rated R for damn good reason - though there's liberal sprinklings of profanity throughout, it's an absolute gorefest. Every action sequence in the movie is littered with torn limbs, exploded bodies, and straight-up geysers of gore.

And while some will decry the reliance on CGI blood over practical squibs, the Kool Aid-like flowing of the red stuff has a pulpy, cartoonish charm all of its own.

Even with the aforementioned editing issues, the action sequences are creatively staged and totally jam-packed with shamelessly silly ultra-violence.

If you're in the market for some hilarious gore that won't make you think long and hard about the consequences of said violence, Renfield just might be the ticket for you.
