One of Ridley Scott's most divisive movies without question, and much of that stems from the fact that the Director's Cut, which runs 50 minutes longer than the theatrical one, adds so much more depth and intrigue to the story without making it seem bloated. Watching the two versions of the film is like looking at night and day. Still, here's what's true across both versions of Kingdom of Heaven: Orlando Bloom was poorly cast as the bland lead, the cinematography and action sequences are terrific, the cast is great (Bloom excluded) and writer William Monaghan does an interesting job relating the battle to present-day conflicts. The theatrical cut definitely feels piecemeal and under-developed as far as characters go, though this is mostly remedied by the cut which Scott intended to be seen initially. Shame on Fox for barely supporting it beyond a begrudging DVD release.
