If you've managed to get through life without having sat down to watch Newsies, congratulations: that's a good thing. A huge box-office flop courtesy of Walt Disney Pictures (and a musical, no less), this flick chronicles the great newspaper boy strike of 1899, who aren't happy with the wages being provided to them by famed publishing giant Joseph Pulitzer. Who is played bombastically by Robert Duvall, by the way. Duvall was nominated for a Golden Raspberry Award for his turn here, and it's easy to see why. Sure, the film itself is a load of old rubbish, but Duvall never looks comfortable to be a part of it, rendering his turn as Pulitzer as a notch above static. The biggest problem is that he - just like the rest of the cast - fails to do anything memorable, and leave us with a character who can only be described as "totally cardboard."
