Rumour: DiCaprio drops out of Mel Gibson's VIKING epic?

By Matt Holmes /

RadarOnline.com are reporting an unnamed source supposedly close to Leonardo DiCaprio claims there's "not a chance" that the actor will star in Mel Gibson's violent Viking epic in the fall, because of reasons you probably can guess. DiCaprio became attached to the dark, grim, bloody, enthralling, gigantic sized epic eight months ago but I think over the past few weeks it's become pretty obvious the movie ain't gonna happen. At this point, Gibson has no chance in finding a budget, or a cast who will have anything to do with him. As much as DiCaprio wants to make a viking movie, when you're one of the biggest stars on the planet - there's less damaging roles a guy can take. Recent reports say DiCaprio will finally make Farragut North with George Clooney in the fall, a movie they have been trying to match schedules on for three years at Warner Bros. Clooney has written and will direct the adaptation of Beau Willimon's fictional political play loosely based on the 2004 Democratic primary run of Howard Dean. It concerns a wonderkid press secretary who falls victim to backroom politics and misguided one night stands during a tight presidential primary race - "a classic tale of hubris set against a contemporary landscape €“ about the lust for power and the costs one will endure to achieve it". DiCaprio is enjoying the best year of his career and will follow up Inception with a biopic of J. Edgar Hoover for Clint Eastwood. On the flip side, Gibson is suffering the worst with his previously Oscar buzzed The Beaver likely to be shelved at Summit for at least a year, and his immediate career left in shatters.
