Is Jude Law about to step into the shoes of Bela Lugosi, Christopher Lee, Frank Langella, Gary Oldman and Gerard Butler? Maybe. Over the weekend we reported that the vampire obsessed director David Slade (Twilight: Eclipse, 30 Days of Night) had agreed to direct The Last Voyage of Demeter, a new take on Dracula that is wholly centered around the mid-chapter of Bram Stokers famous novel and specifically the fate of the cargo ship passengers who are killed off one by one as The Count makes his journey from Transylvania to Whitby. We know the movie is currently seeking funding with Noomi Rapace and Ben Kingsley loosely attached to star, but an interesting rumour has just emerged at Bleeding Cool where they say Brit actor Jude Law is in talks for 'a lead role' which, perhaps, could be The Count himself. Though as charming as Law can be in films such as Alfie and others, I can't imagine we would see that side of the actor playing Dracula, who in this particular period is at his most ominous and pure evil. Instantly I'm reminded of Law's rat-faced, pale as a ghost rodent villain from Road to Perdition and how great he was in that role and how cool it would be to see him play a blood thirsty vamp in a R-Rated picture which is described as Alien but with Dracula as the killer. Though I should mention BC's 'lead' rumor could just as easily signify a good guy protagonist for Law, or even the Captain of the ship whose diary log narrates the film. Or the rumour might not even be true but we hope it is.
