Russell Crowe tops Abrams' wish-list for Trek villain

By Matt Holmes /

Russell Crowe is often at the top of 'wish-lists' for big movies because he's probably the best actor of his generation. Every director wants Crowe but of course he can only spread himself so far... and only of course only if the price is right. I mean this is a guy who is so powerful (and let's face it, arrogant) that he turned down a role in Baz Luhrmann's huge epic movie Australia because 'he doesn't do charity work'. By charity work, he of course means earning millions and millions and millions of dollars to appear in a massive production. A role that most thesps would kill for. Hugh Jackman was eventually cast, another guy who regularly tops these 'wish-lists'. So we shouldn't be all that surprised that reports have leaked onto the web that Russell Crowe heads the top of Abrams' list for the main bad guy in the revamp. If you ask me, they haven't got a chance in hell of getting him unless they offered him the infamous 'Marlon Brando in Superman' deal but if Crowe is to be the main villain, a cameo won't be enough. If true, at least it shows the caliber of actor they want for the villain... which is exactly the way to go. A good and recognizable villain will get asses in seats because the crew will mostly be made of unknowns. This also would indicate the villain is likely to be human because it's hard to image Crowe with funny make-up. So let me reiterate. Crowe won't ever sign up to a movie like Star Trek without a MASSIVE offer (and even then it's probably unlikely) but it does show us how high they are shooting for with the villain role. source - ign
