Watching a fat-suited Reynolds sing along to 'I Swear' would have been worth the ticket price alone, if the film that followed this funny opening sequence wasn't such a dud. Showing that, given the wrong script, comedy isn't always his strong point, Reynolds smarms his way through a tale of a former butterball turned handsome music exec heading home to snag the prom queen (Amy Smart, back when Amy Smart was a thing) he never stood a chance with back in high school. Unfunny both in and out of the suit, Reynolds is on a charm auto pilot, never really bringing his character to life and, for the most part, being acted off the screen by Anna Faris, who is on top form as a Vicodin-snaffling pop diva. A truly forgettable romantic comedy.
