Is Sam Raimi going to return for a fourth Spider-Man movie? Personally, I would rate the chances 80/20 in favour of him NOT returning. We all know he was locked into doing a trilogy of Spider-Man movies and although he was given great creative freedom for the first two flicks, by the time the development came on Spider-Man 3... the fans wanted Venom and against Raimi's wishes, the character was added into the mix. What this left us with of course was Raimi forced to add another villain to his already packed film left Spider-Man 3 disjointed and a severely overcrowded and ambitious mess. Simply put then, now that Spider-Man 3 is out of the way, everyone in the franchise has a clean schedule and can choose whether to return or not for future films. Director Sam Raimi currently has that choice to make...
"Sony Pictures is going to be making many more 'Spider-Man' pictures," Raimi told MTV News Friday night. "I just don't know what future holds yet." "I would love to see Electro, Vulture, maybe the Sinister Six as a team,"
Raimi telling us what villains he wants to use as easy as that? What that indicates to me is that he has chosen his fate, and it doesn't involve our webbed hero. Raimi ALWAYS keeps production on the character close to his chest in the early development stages, I think he's just telling us his fanboy wishes here because he knows he ain't doing it. The only way I could see Raimi returning is if he was offered FULL FREEDOM on the project but of course that ain't going to happen. This franchise is too much of a money making gold mine for Sony and just like what happened with the James Bond franchise in the early days, they now have a set formula for what they want in a Spider-Man film and they will hire a "lapdog" director who is willing to give them just that. Raimi has too much ambition to be told what to do with his film. Interestingly he thinks Electro and Vulture should be the next villains. The early word I got on Spider-Man 3 was that Vulture was one of the villains that Raimi was desperate to use for the film. The character would break-out of prison alongside The Sandman and wreck havoc as a team on Peter Parker's life but I believe the studio passed on that idea as they were ready to use their trump card of Venom, to make them a large wad of cash. The Sinister Six is probably their next big trump card, but I can't see it happening because it means they will use so many villains in one go that they could slowly build up and develop as larger characters in their own individual films. Still, it would be some sight to see Spidey go up against Six villains! Spider-Man 3 currently has made $878.9 million worldwide and continues to climb as it has now reached the top ten of the highest grossing movies of all time. Oh there's going to be more Spider-Man movies folks, no doubt about it. This is clearly a "Bond" like franchise for Sony and you will be seeing Spider-Man 4 in your local cinema sooner rather than later. source - coming soon, mtv
