Alfonso Cuaron's 3D space action/drama epic 'Gravity' is back on. Hurray, cinematic originality still exits, somewhere! The project looked dead and buried after Mike Fleming wrote an eulogy for the ambitious movie last night when Natalie Portman bailed, but a passionate plea from Cuaron/Warner Bros. to 2009 Box Office queen Sandra Bullock ($450 million she brought in last year) means the $80 million, special effects heavy flick could be a go-er! Bullock, for the second time, is in talks over the lead role of a female astronaut as she attempts to make her way back to earth and to her daughter after a satellite crashes into her space station. It's a challenging role, 'Cast Away' in space by all accounts, and WB desperately needed a 'female Tom Hanks' to give them a tentpole. After Angelina Jolie and Natalie Portman passed - they now have Bullock, and the supporting astronaut played by Robert Downey Jr (who bookends the movie). That equals tentpole to be. Cuaron last directed 'Children of Men' over three years ago now and by all intents, wants to blow our minds with this.
