17. Mrs. Voorhees - Friday the 13th (1980)

The original Friday the 13th rocks the all-timer horror twist that the killings at Camp Crystal Lake aren't being committed by a resurrected Jason Voorhees, but in fact his murderously deranged mother, Pamela (Betsy Palmer), in revenge for Jason being neglected and allowed to drown at the camp decades prior.

At the very end of the film, Pamela attacks the Final Girl, Alice (Adrienne King), who fights back with all her might and eventually manages to decapitate Pamela with her own machete of all things.

As cheaply made as the movie is, the money shot of Mrs. Voorhees' head being parted from her body is an all-timer, while also cementing Alice as one of the genre's most iconic Final Girls.

While Mrs. Voorhees' anguish at losing her son is understandable, the manner with which she took matters into her own bloody hands? Not so much - she was a menace who needed to be put down.
