Watcher is a low-key horror film that makes high-key impact through its top-tier casting and perfect summation of the unease of feeling out of place.

Maika Monroe stars as Julia, an American woman who lives in Bucharest with her husband and comes to believe that the stranger (Burn Gorman) watching her from his apartment across the street might be a serial killer.

The feeling of being watched is one of our most innate, universal fears, and filmmaker Chloe Okuno clearly has an acute understanding of this, leveraging her tight, claustrophobic visuals to make the most of Monroe's sublime performance.

The fear and paranoia is only enhanced by Julia living in an unfamiliar place, all while the ambiguous nature of her apparent antagonist means those in her midst don't rush to believe her.
