10 Scariest Horror Movie Scenes Set In The Day

9. Randy's Death - Scream 2

When Scream first released in 1996, it changed the game not just for slashers, but for the entire horror genre. Within the first 12 minutes, Drew Barrymore's Casey was killed, letting everyone watching know expectations were going to be subverted and that no one was safe.

Even knowing that, it still seemed as though there were certain characters with enough plot armour that they didn't need to be worried about. Neve Campbell's Sidney Prescott of course, as well as Courteney Cox's Gale Weathers, David Arquette's Dewey Riley, and Jamie Kennedy's Randy Martin.

The latter in particular, with his extensive knowledge as an almost walking horror movie survival guide, seemed particularly safe. Until Scream 2. Just when he had been explaining to Dewey that the killer in this real-life sequel wanted to break new ground, he was attacked in broad daylight as opposed to the typical nighttime scene.

Dewey, Gale, and Randy scrabbling to find the killer on the other end of the phone grew to be an incredibly tense scene, particularly with so many people around in the middle of the day. Randy was then caught and slaughtered, which to this day is still one of the most shocking scenes in the entire franchise, unequivocally helped by the fact that it took place without the cover of darkness.
