14. Murphy Sees His Body For The First Time - RoboCop (2014)

2014's RoboCop remake has been mostly forgotten for good reason, but to be totally fair to it, there is one bracingly effective body horror sequence that proves it wasn't a wholly cynical, creatively bankrupt exercise.

After Alex Murphy (Joel Kinnaman) is critically injured by a car bomb, he's resurrected as RoboCop, and the moment that Alex learns precisely what remains of his body is pure, uncut nightmare fuel.

In the lab, the program's chief scientist Dr. Dennett Norton (Gary Oldman) disassembles Murphy's cyborg form in front of him, revealing just how little of Alex's true physical form is left - his head, lungs, his heart, and right hand.

More to the point, Alex gets to see the transparent housing containing his remaining "inside parts," prompting him to beg Dr. Norton to kill him, who refuses.

The idea of being near-vaporised by a car bomb and then Frankensteined back to life in a crude robotic chassis is existential body horror at its finest, and the remake surprisingly taps into this in a way that even the original 1987 film never did.
