Although there wasn't a mask chosen in the script, an early design for the Woodsboro Killer did mention the fact that he would be dressed all in white, to make him look even more like a ghost.

That changed when someone on the production pointed out that hooded white cloaks are typically associated with the Ku Klux Klan, so that idea was quickly dropped and he was rebranded as a fan of black.
