Scream 7: 10 Things We Want To See
10. Move On From The Legacy Cast
With the fifth Scream movie being a "requel," it signalled the series relying less on its legacy heroes moving forward - confirmed by the death of Dewey (David Arquette) and smaller roles afforded to Gale (Courteney Cox) and especially Sidney (Neve Campbell).
Scream VI then saw Neve Campbell turn down an offer to return due to a pay dispute, with Gale being the only O.G. character to return - and in a relatively limited capacity, no less.
And it evidently didn't harm Scream VI at all - between the solid reviews and it inevitably becoming the highest-grossing film in the series, the sequel proved the franchise is in safe hands with its new heroes, while gradually sunsetting the originals.
Now, while many fans would love to see Sidney return one last time, doesn't Scream 7 feel like the right time to move past the legacy characters entirely?
Bringing Sid back again after she's made industrious efforts to keep away from Ghostface, and having Gale return after being near-slaughtered in Scream VI, could easily reek of desperation. If there isn't an organic place for them in the story, just leave them out.
Sure, a quick cameo probably wouldn't be objectionable, but Scream 7 represents a ripe opportunity to let the Core Four take center stage without any caveats whatsoever.
Dusting off Sid and Gale once again for the sake of lazy, fan-serving nostalgia would ultimately prevent the series from standing on its own feet.
