Scream VI: 22 WTF Moments
22. The INSANE Opening Sequence
Scream VI kicks off with one of the most unpredictable and expectation-defying opening sequences in the series' history. In New York City we follow Laura Crane (Samara Weaving), an Australian film studies teacher working at Blackmore University.
She's in a bar waiting to meet a date when she receives a call from her apparent date, who claims he can't find the bar and lures her into a nearby alley-way.
The caller's voice then changes to Ghostface's, and Laura is brutally stabbed to death, before the killer removes their mask to reveal that they're a young man by the name of Jason (Tony Revolori).
For the first time in the series, one of the killers has been unmasked just six minutes into the movie.
Moreover, Jason is a college friend of Tara's (Jenna Ortega) and has a shrine to Ghostface in his apartment.
We then learn that he and his roommate Greg are Ghostface copycats attempting to finish Richie's (Jack Quaid) "film" from the last Scream, and that he killed Laura, his film studies teacher, as "practice."
At that moment Jason receives a call from another Ghostface, who he initially believes to be Greg, but it's soon enough revealed that Greg's dismembered corpse is in fact in their fridge, before the "real" Ghostface emerges and kills Jason.
A mortally wounded Jason tells his killer that they need to finish Richie's movie, to which Ghostface mockingly says, "Who gives a f**k about movies?" and delivers the killing blow. Classic.
