20 Secret Movie Sub-Plots You Didn't Notice

17. Malfunctioning Machine - T2: Judgment Day (1991)

In a subplot only overtly explored - albeit briefly - in Terminator 2: Judgment Day's extended cut, the unstoppable killing machine that is the T-1000 (Robert Patrick) is seen suffering from some major malfunctions.

Struggling to reform himself after injury and even unintentionally glitching when taking the form of people, the T-1000 starts to fall apart throughout James Cameron's action-heavy Terminator sequel after being frozen and broken down by liquid nitrogen earlier in the movie.

It's easy to overlook such glitches, but this is one unmentioned subplot that actually ends up playing a pivotal role in the final act, when John Connor (Edward Furlong) is able to figure out the T-1000 has taken the form of his mother (Linda Hamilton).

Easy to miss but too important not to acknowledge on future re-watches, T-1000 crumbling infrastructure is a brilliant plot twist, and just goes to show that even the most perfect of killers in this franchise have their weaknesses.
