They announced that we were gonna do a sequel pretty much right after we premiered. They knew we were tracking well enough, they were happy enough with the numbers. So they have been steadily and earnestly working on the script for the sequel and I think Q1 of next year is the idea.

Announced with its official title at the DC FanDome online event, Shazam! Fury of the Gods is set to feature Zachary Levi reprising his titular role with Jack Dylan Grazer, Marta Milans, Asher Angel, Meagan Good, Faithe Herman, and Adam Brody. Director David F. Sandberg (Lights Out, Annabelle: Creation) will also be returning, as will screenwriter Henry Gayden (Earth to Echo).

Levi maintained that at least one reason for the rapid production cycle was due to many of the young actors growing up, and potentially aging out of their roles if they waited too long, "We gotta get to it fast, the kids are growing fast." He also addressed concerns that the ongoing global pandemic could affect production, saying "COVID has kind of made everything a little bit up in the air, but very much the intent is to make another one."

Another high-profile DC film, The Batman, has had its production shut down after a member of the production (rumored to be star Robert Pattinson) tested postivie for COVID-19.

Shazam! Fury of the Gods is currently slated for a release date of November 4, 2022.
