Shiloh Fernandez has landed the highly coveted lead role in FilmDistrict and Mandate's Evil Dead reboot, according to Variety. The movie will send the Red Riding Hood actor back into the woods and to a remote cabin where a group of teens discover a Book of the Dead that unleashes demons they can't control. Although officially dubbed a remake of the 1981 classic, the new horror penned and to be directed by Fede Alvarez has a new take on the material and does not include the character of Ash, made famous by Bruce Campbell and original director Sam Raimi. A surprising decision but one Raimi, original producer Rob Tapert and Bruce Campbell himself but support as the trio are producing through Raimi's Ghost House Pictures banner. The search is now on for a female lead after Mirror Mirror actress Lily Collins had to drop talks over scheduling difficulties. The film was announced last November and is part of a worldwide deal (though excluding UK and France) between Sony Pictures Worldwide Acquisitions, FilmDistrict and Ghost House Pictures which Sony Pictures will distribute. As for when Evil Dead will film is unclear as actor Fernandez has also just signed up for Deep Powder, a new horror movie from Killer Films which Uptown Girls" helmer Mo Ogrodnik is writing and directing and which will probably shoot first.
