14. Sarah Is A Secret Spy - Relay

David Mackenzie's deliciously tense crime thriller Relay centers around Ash (Riz Ahmed), a fixer who attempts to help a corporate whistle-blower, Sarah (Lily James), evade the company she planned to expose.

In the third act Sarah is kidnapped by operatives who work for said company, forcing a romantically involved Ash to try and rescue her.

But once Ash reaches Sarah, she suddenly zaps him with a taser totally out of nowhere, revealing that she was neither a hostage nor a whistle-blower. 

Sarah has actually been the secret leader of the operatives the entire time, and her whole whistle-blower act was merely an elaborate sting to ensnare Ash, due to a previous deal he brokered with a whistle-blower against the organisation.

Effectively, Sarah was a honeypot to lure Ash out into the open, and while it certainly caught a lot of viewers off-guard, many also felt that it was a touch too contrived for its own good.
