EON Productions, IMAX Corporation, MGM Studios and Sony Pictures have announced today that the currently filming 23rd official James Bond movie Skyfall will be released in IMAX theaters later this year. Hitting both domestic and international IMAX venues, Skyfall becomes the first James Bond movie to ever be released in the IMAX format. The move comes after the huge success of Brad Bird's blockbuster Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol was released in IMAX cinemas last December after being partially filmed with IMAX cameras and took an astonishing $670 million worldwide. With The Hunger Games and The Dark Knight Rises expected to boost IMAX theater numbers this summer it is no real surprise that Sony and MGM have decided to the same way with their most anticipated Bond movie in eight years.
