Spider-Man: 5 Things Marvel Will Miss From The Amazing Series

3. The Perfect Look

An unfortunate side effect of rebooting an immensely popular character like Spider-Man is always going to be the need to employ easy signifiers early on to allow for swift distinction from any extinct predecessors. In the case of Spider-Man, this is likely to come in the form of a change to the iconic costume. Now admittedly Spider-Man's fifty year old wardrobe does contain a range of outfits that would be the envy of Community's Dean Pelton, but there has always been that one familiar look that will never die. Despite a new take on Peter's early look in The Amazing Spider-Man, the second film gave fans the best on-screen look at Spidey's trademark threads like never before. With the MCU version of the character completely distinct, this is obviously gone. This may seem like a small issue to many, but consider how Marvel have already managed to strip Hawkeye of much of his comic familiarity by militarising his look in his current appearances. Looking like nothing more than another of S.H.I.E.L.D's small screen agents, Hawkeye is marginalised by his lack of familiar signifiers. Obviously this won't be anywhere near as severe for a hero like Spider-Man, but shifting away from this perfect costume for the sake of setting the franchises apart will be a shame, especially as Spidey's iconic look was nailed by this most recent version.
