The Rumour
Even with her parentage apparently "confirmed" by the junior novelisation, some are still holding on to the idea that Disney star Zendaya is actually playing long-term Peter Parker romantic interest MJ. And it's not a rumour that's going to go away until everyone has seen it.

If she's not strictly playing MJ, it's hard not to feel that she will eventually transition to being this universe's version of her. The backstory and her name might be different, but there's something more authentic in her teased dynamic with Peter than their is with Liz Allan.
So it wouldn't come as a major surprise if she did end up taking on MJ's role, even if she's not actually playing a character called MJ. It's not like it would be unprecedented in comic book movies.
