Spider-Man: Homecoming 2 - 10 Comic Stories It Could Adapt
10. Back In Black
Nobody knows how the Marvel Cinematic Universe will look after Thanos has smashed his way through it in Infinity War and its sequel. Perhaps it will be a darker place, in which case Spider-Man story Back in Black would be ripe for adaptation.
Tom Holland's arc as the arachnid superhero is a coming-of-age tale, so a loose take on this 2007 event could easily be the next chapter of it, a period in Peter Parker's life where he grapples with darker urges.
An assassin's bullet entering Aunt May is the catalyst for a more badass Peter, a revenge-hungry Spider-Man who dons a back suite not unlike his infamous symbiote get-up and ends up only a love of firearms away from becoming The Punisher.
This grittier Spidey tale would only really make sense on screen in its purest form if the symbiote was introduced to the MCU in one of the upcoming Avengers sequels, which isn't completely off the table considering they will be rich in cosmic elements.
The Kingpin's role as the main antagonist is more problematic since he's tied up in Marvel's television universe, which has so far remained separate from the MCU, but there's no reason why he couldn't be substituted for another villain.
It makes sense for Holland's Spider-Man movies to go darker and maturer with each sequel, and cherrypicking aspects of Back in Black would put the series on this path.
