8. It's A Great High School Movie

Much of the pre-release chatter surrounding the film has suggested that it was attempting to emulate the tone of a John Hughes high school movie, and by most accounts director Jon Watts has largely succeeded.

Though several critics noted being skeptical about the Hughes comparisons going in, they were largely happy to eat crow post-screening, admitting that it was a perfect fit for these characters and this story, and serves as an entertaining compliment to the more typical superhero shenanigans.
